Bars and Nightlife in Tasmania: Hobart's Salamanca, North Hobart and Launceston

Tasmania's bar and nightlife scene is concentrated in Hobart and Launceston, with Hobart offering the more developed small-bar culture. Salamanca Place in Hobart is the natural starting point, with several quality bars and live music venues in the sandstone warehouse precinct that become particularly active on Friday and Saturday evenings. Lark Distillery on Hunter Street is one of Tasmania's most celebrated whisky producers with a tasting bar open to the public. North Hobart's Elizabeth Street strip has a neighbourhood bar culture loved by locals — with several intimate wine bars, craft beer venues and live music pubs in a single walkable strip. The Wharf One complex at the Mona Ferry terminal has a bar and bistro with outstanding Derwent River views. Launceston's CBD on Brisbane and Charles Streets has a more conventional pub and bar culture alongside the Seaport precinct. The Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) at Berriedale has its own extraordinary bar and restaurant complex, FARO and The Source, that are destinations in themselves. Most Hobart bars peak in summer (Mona Foma in January, Dark Mofo in June).
