Best Markets in Tasmania: Salamanca Market, Farm Gate and Weekend Events

Tasmania has some of Australia's most celebrated markets, anchored by the Salamanca Market in Hobart. The Salamanca Market operates every Saturday morning along the sandstone wharf buildings of Salamanca Place and is one of the country's most iconic outdoor markets, with fresh food, craft, art, clothing and live music in a heritage setting. The Farm Gate Market on Bathurst Street in Hobart CBD operates Sunday mornings from September to May and is regarded as the purest farm-to-table market in Australia, with producers selling direct from their own farms across Tasmania. The Launceston Harvest Market at the Old Launceston Seaport on Sundays is the north of the state's equivalent. Bruny Island has a small market during the visitor season. Stanley in the northwest and Bicheno on the east coast have periodic seasonal markets. These markets collectively represent Tasmania's extraordinary local food culture.
