Contribute to The Daily Tasmania
We commission freelance reporters, photographers and essayists across Tasmania. Pitch us a story, share a tip or tell us what we are missing.
How to pitch
- Lead with the headline you would want to read. One sentence, no jargon.
- In a paragraph, tell us what the story is, who it affects, and why it matters now. Link to anything already published on the subject.
- Tell us what you can deliver: word count, photos, interviews already secured, and how long you need.
- Disclose any conflicts of interest, paid work or advocacy related to the subject.
- Pitch one story at a time. We respond to every pitch within 48 hours, including a polite no.
What we pay
- News, 400-600 words, from $250.
- Features, 1,200-2,000 words, from $700.
- Photography, day rate from $400, single commission from $120.
- Op-eds, 700-900 words, from $200.
What we are looking for
- Accountability reporting on local and state government.
- Housing, planning and development across Tasmania.
- Environment, with original reporting rather than press release rewrites.
- Profiles of people who actually shape the state.
- First-person essays grounded in a specific place and time.

You do not need to write the story to share a lead. Email tips@dailycanberra.com.au. We protect sources and never publish a tipster without their consent.
